IDP's membrane switches can be built with surface mount LEDs embedded into the switch package to provide
cost effective way of backlighting. The designs below demonstrate two methods. The flat membrane design
will be the thicker design of the two (i.e. approx. .060")




IDP utilizes the best materials available today to ensure that your product is properly shielded according to your specifications. IDP uses the most current technology in shielding against the following:
ESD: Electrostatic Discharge
EMI: Electromagnetic Interference
RFI: Radio Frequency Interference

Common Materials

  • Silver and graphite ink on polyester
  • ITO sputtered on polyester
  • Conductive elastomers
  • Metal foils or meshes

IDP can supply a wide range of methodologies to backlight your product. Some of the common solutions are listed below.

LEDs
This is the most cost effective method to backlight selective areas through using a wide variety of sub- straits, LED styles, sizes and colors.

Fiber Optics
Fiber optics is a unique way of backlighting panels and membrane switches. Its flexible fibers are designed for maximum light transmission, and have a white reflective backing for the best illumination possible. The layers are backlit by a LED on the motherboard.

Electroluminescent
Electroluminescent (EL) is a thin and flexible layer capable of lighting uniformly and is esthetically appealing. It can be designed to light a wide area, or discrete locations. EL can be designed to have multiple colors and is a layer in the switch.
