This construction provides tactile feedback from the elastomer. The printed shorting pads serve as the shorting element to the PCBA. This design seals the contacts and is an advantage to keep the contacts clean.

This construction provides tactile feedback from the membrane. The printed shorting pads serve as the shorting element to the PCBA. This design seals the contacts, and is an advantage to keep the contacts clean. An alternative design is to incorporate metal domes and eliminate layers.
